Cause I’m a saddo and would rather compile this list rather than watch the footie or an episode of Westworld this is just something I have cobbled together in my spare time.
I have listed a list of useful citations for your business. I’ll try to keep them updated as much as humanly possible. However, I can’t guarantee that all of the links will be working all of the time or if each site is live.
There’s nothing to buy here nor am I advising you to choose one site over another. It’s basically a helpful resource to allow you to get your business listed in the most important places related to your individual area.
Some of the directories are free to list and others are paid. In my experience, you don’t really need to use the paid directories unless most of your competition are actually there too (highly unlikely tho).
Data providers for UK Citation Sites
You’re probably best registering your details with these bad boys first. The sites listed below actually update the business listings for their respective partners.
Please be warned, a lot of these sites will contact you once you have registered. Take their call and allow them to check that the details you entered online are correct. However, most of them will take you down an alley of upsells to get more exposure for your business.
I can’t really advise you which upsell is right for you or your business nor can I inform you which one is good or bad. Please do your own due diligence before making a decision 🙂
Infoserve – They basically feed their details to Cityvisitor & Yahoo!Local (at the time of writing).
Local Data Search – They are owned by the Local Data Company. Not only do they collect data online, they also visiti most of the UK’s towns and cities and gather even more info. Clients of their data include: Google, SKY IQ, BBC,Facebook, Yell, ThomsonLocal, TomTom and many more…
Bing Places. This is actually a link taking your directly to Bing. You’ll be able to check to see if your business is already listed and if it is you can claim it. If you’re business isn’t listed then you can add your business.
My 118Info – operated by 118 Data Resource Limited and feeds BT, 118118, The Sun, The Independent, the Scoot network (TouchLocal) and many more.
Factual – supplies content to Bing, Uber, AOL (Yep they’re still around) Apple Maps, Yelp, Doubleclick, Tripadvisor and more…
Citations on social media sites
Facebook – Bit like Marmite, love it or hate it, you’ve got to have a Facebook page for your business and ensure you have a link back to your business (main page please). Within Facebook you should be able to add all of your business contact details inc phone number and web link.
Foursquare – From my research I haven’t seen this come up in my backlinks checker for local businesses. However, I’m told that they provide info for other directory sites.
LinkedIn – They are the largest business social network on the planet and have just been aquired by Microsoft. Simply create your company page and enter all of your address and web details.
YouTube – The second most popular search engine. Add your details to the “about” section of any videos you post.
Twitter – In the business profile section you can add your phone number and address.
